Using Software Remotely


Penn State, and the College of IST, provide several methods of accessing software you may need to complete coursework remotely. The College of IST provides WinLabs, with most of the software installed in the classrooms. You can also access some software in non-IST classrooms via Penn State's new service, WebLabs. Penn State also provides the following software in WebApps:

Penn State Software Options for Students


Penn State has a contract with Microsoft to provide Windows, Office, and Office for Mac to currently enrolled students. More details can be found at http://softwarestore.psu.edu/news/microsoft-no-cost-software.

Penn State IT is embarking on a new initiative to help promote Digital Fluency among students. The first part of this initiative is providing Adobe Creative Cloud at no cost to all faculty and students. Simply visit Adobe.psu.edu and follow the instructions to download the suite.

Microsoft Software Options for Students


Penn State has signed up for Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching (formerly Microsoft Imagine or Dreamspark), which is an annual membership program provided by Microsoft at cost to enrolled academic institutions.

With this membership, Penn State is able to provide you and your fellow students with opportunities to experiment with Microsoft software, development tools, operating systems, server software, documentation, and technical references.

IST provides limited, best-effort support for this service.

To access, please go to the Penn State Software Request page, and select Penn State. Log in via WebAccess if needed, then select Products at the top, then locate "Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching" and click the Order button. Proceed through the order process, Further information, including how to access the software, will be emailed to your Penn State email address.



VMware Software Options for Students


The College of IST has enrolled in VMware Academic Program. This is a program that enables faculty and students to use several VMware software products for academic purposes. More information can be found at Accessing VMware Academic Program.

IST provides limited, best-effort support for this service.
